1. Bulldog Hall of Fame

(Professional or International Athletic Achievement)

The Bulldog Hall of Fame recognizes former Oakland Tech student-athletes whose exceptional accomplishments at Oakland Tech served as the foundation for distinguished careers competing professionally or representing their country in international competition.

Eligibility

• Must be an Oakland Technical High School graduate or former student-athlete.

• Must have graduated a minimum of 10 years prior to nomination.

• Must have earned significant athletic recognition while competing at Oakland Tech.

• Must have competed professionally (domestic or international leagues) or represented their country in recognized international competition (Olympics, World Championships, National Teams, etc.).

• Must demonstrate integrity, sportsmanship, and character that reflects positively on Oakland Tech.

 

Selection Considerations

• Athletic accomplishments at Oakland Tech.

• Professional and/or international athletic achievements.

• Leadership and sportsmanship.

• Positive representation of Oakland Tech throughout their career.

• Contributions to the sport or community after competition.

 

2. Bulldog Hall of Distinction

(Coaching Excellence)

The Bulldog Hall of Distinction honors coaches whose leadership, mentorship, and commitment have made a lasting impact on Oakland Tech Athletics and the lives of student-athletes.

Eligibility

• Current or former Oakland Tech coach.

• Minimum of 5 years of coaching service at Oakland Tech (exceptions may be made for extraordinary accomplishments).

• Must have demonstrated excellence in coaching, leadership, and student development.

• Retired coaches are eligible immediately upon retirement.

 

Selection Considerations

• Longevity and commitment to Oakland Tech.

• Competitive success (league, section, state championships, playoff appearances).

• Development of student-athletes academically, athletically, and personally.

• Leadership within the Oakland Tech community.

• Positive influence on the culture and tradition of Oakland Tech Athletics.

• Character, integrity, and sportsmanship.

 

3. Bulldog Hall of Honor

(Collegiate Athletic Achievement)

The Bulldog Hall of Honor recognizes former student-athletes who excelled at Oakland Tech and continued their athletic careers at the collegiate level while representing the Bulldog tradition with distinction.

Eligibility

• Must be an Oakland Tech graduate.

• Minimum of 5 years since graduation.

• Must have participated in collegiate athletics (NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA, or equivalent).

• Must have demonstrated outstanding athletic achievement while attending Oakland Tech.

 

Selection Considerations

• Athletic accomplishments at Oakland Tech.

• Collegiate athletic participation and achievements.

• Academic success and graduation (when applicable).

• Leadership and sportsmanship.

• Community involvement and positive representation of Oakland Tech.

 

4. Huey P. Newton Community Achievement Award

The Huey P. Newton Community Achievement Award recognizes Oakland Tech alumni, staff, coaches, or community members whose leadership, advocacy, and service have created meaningful and lasting change for Oakland Tech, the Oakland community, and beyond.

Named in honor of Oakland Tech alumnus Huey P. Newton, this award celebrates individuals who embody courage, leadership, education, justice, and service to others.

 

Eligibility

• Oakland Tech alumnus, former or current staff member, coach, volunteer, or community partner.

• Demonstrated significant contributions to education, community service, social justice, youth development, public service, or civic leadership.

• Must exemplify the values of integrity, equity, leadership, and service.

 

Selection Considerations

• Lasting impact on Oakland Tech and/or the greater Oakland community.

• Leadership in education, advocacy, civic engagement, or public service.

• Commitment to equity, justice, and opportunity for young people.

• Service that reflects the values and legacy of Huey P. Newton.

• Positive role model whose work continues to inspire future generations.

 

General Nomination Requirements

All nominees should:

• Demonstrate high standards of character, integrity, and sportsmanship.

• Bring honor to Oakland Technical High School through their accomplishments and conduct.

• Be nominated by a community member, alumnus, coach, staff member, or teammate using the official nomination form.

• Be reviewed and selected by the Oakland Tech Bulldogs Hall of Fame Selection Committee.

 

The Selection Committee reserves the right to determine whether a nominee meets the standards for induction and may defer induction if the criteria are not sufficiently met.
